Starbucks Red Cup
REBELLION Day
11.17.22

On November 17, 2022, more than 2,000 employees at over 100 Starbucks locations went on a one-day strike to protest the retaliation taken against union supporters nationwide and what they characterize as the company's refusal to bargain with the union on a first labor deal.
Red Cup Day is an important day at Starbucks as it kicks off the holiday season and customers who order a holiday or fall hand-crafted beverage receive a free, limited-edition, reusable red cup.
The perfect day for a ULP strike. The Mid-Atlantic Regional Joint Board had five unionized Starbucks stores that participated in the strike; N. Charles St.-Baltimore, MD, Nottingham Shopping Center-Nottingham, MD, Georgia Avenue-Olney, MD, Arlington Courthouse-Arlington, VA and Gallows and Gatehouse-Falls Church, VA.
The union called its strike a "Red Cup Rebellion" and handed out their own red Starbucks Workers United union cups to customers instead.
